Full Description:
From the moment you arrive at the Wheelhouse Apartments, the Luxury Strahan Accommodation, you feel a sense of ease and serenity that only comes from being this close to nature. This true retreat is in harmony with the lush environment, magnificent views, inviting guests to relax in absolute comfort and style. Spoil yourself!
This stunning, contemporary accommodation offers unsurpassed views of the West Coast of Tasmania. In fact, a clever design assures that the dramatic clifftop vistas of Macquarie Harbour aren't just seen but rather are experienced as the physically thrilling centrepiece of the building itself.
The lounge-rooms of this luxury Strahan accommodation are cantilevered towards the cliff-top on elevated steel girders. At the front, huge glass windows lean outward at the top, giving the sense of being able to step right up to the cliff's edge, above the immense waterway.
Richly coloured and fossilised stone-work walls anchor this whole grand illusion to solid ground and green grass.
Local Strahan timbers are featured, including myrtle, celery top and Huon pine. The designer/builder of this luxury Strahan accommodation has also included some of his feature light-fittings and tables, completing a true labour of love.
We have 1 x 1 bedroom unit and 1 x 2 bedroom unit. The one bedroom unit can accommodate 2 guests and has 2 bathrooms. The 2 bedroom can accommodate 4 guests and has 2 bathrooms. In addition, both units have a sofa bed in the lounge room that has an innerspring mattress.
The two fully self-contained luxury units took over three years to build. The resulting attention to detail and fully realised aesthetic make the Wheelhouse Apartments unique luxury Strahan accommodation.
The idea was to create luxury Strahan accommodation with a sense of standing on the bridge of a huge ship, as though the apartments hovered high above the harbour itself. The maritime feel is subtly accentuated by polished timber floors, even pitch-caulking in places, uncluttered space, stanchion wire hand-rails and exterior cladding of open-sky blue.
The upstairs bedrooms don't just have spas... they have spas with more of the incredible views and also separate ensuites.
Downstairs, kitchen serving windows open onto 'yachtish' sun-decks... more of the floating flavour... and barbecues are provided.
Both units have a second bedroom downstairs, ideal for sharing this unique luxury Strahan accommodation with family or friends.
The ever-present view is always absorbing but television sets cantilever off the walls, upstairs and down, for a hint of modernity.
Air-conditioning means effortless comfort.
Off-street parking, wheelchair access and continental breakfast are provided.
The centre of Strahan is five minutes walk from where you have booked your own exclusive view of the South West wilderness.
If you manage to prise yourself away from Wheelhouse Apartments for the day, you can immerse yourself in the wilderness of Macquarie Harbour, the Gordon River and Sarah Island with World Heritage Cruises.
